Toothbrush with LED

led-brush

Unbelievable gadget.

There all kinds of UV gadgets that will sanitize your toothbrush.  Oddly there aren’t many toothbrushes that have some sort of lighting within the brush itself in the US or UK.  Yet Japan has managed to take their toothbrushes to a whole new shiny level.  These new and improved versions have LED lights that are placed inside the brush itself.  Giving you a shining light to go directly into your mouth and shine on those pearly whites.

The LED light is said to somehow help with illness prevention.  It doesn’t explain that statement a whole lot, partially because it’s not always the best translation going from Japanese to English.  I’m sure if you could read Japanese, it might be a little more clear on that.  The design is supposed to be released at about the middle of May, so it should be fairly soon now.  It doesn’t give pricing information, but if you’re outside of Japan it’s going to be difficult to get your hands on this toothbrush anyway.

oh my..i bet all the guys would simply love to add this to their list of gizmos

The Palm Eos, expected to arrive post Pre... if you know what we mean. Image: Engadget.

Following recent claims that smartphone specialist Palm is planning to launch yet another WebOS handset alongside its much talked about Pre device, various industry watchers are shifting focus to the new Palm Eos (a.k.a. the ‘Castle’).

At just 10.6mm in thickness, the pleasingly skinny Eos is believed to be a tad smaller than the Pre in terms of physical sizing and will enter the market as something of a replacement for the Palm’s trusty Centro platform.

Initial media reaction to the quad-band GSM/HSDPA (850/1900) Eos suggests it will offer solid connectivity thanks to high-speed 3G and will be carried in the United States by telecommunications giant AT&T, while Rogers will provide support north of the border.

According to a sneak peek claimed by the tech gurus at Engadget, the Eos will offer a 2.63-inch display screen (320 x 400), 4GBs of internal data storage, a modest 2.0 mega pixel camera with video capture, Bluetooth 2.1 (A2DP/EDR), USB 2.0 via microUSB and up to four hours of 3G talk time through a removable and rechargeable 1150 mAh battery.

Padding out the expected pre-rebate pricing of around $350 USD, the handset will also offer a full keyboard, A-GPS navigation, SMS, MMS and Instant Messaging, MediaNet, e-mail support for POP3, IMAP4 and EAS, audio support for WAV, MP3, AAC and AAC+, and video support for MPEG4, H.264 and H.263.

Scientists invent hi-tech gadgets to help elderly

Phil Heslop of Newcastle University with kitchen gadgets to help elderly dementia sufferers

Certainly a hi-tech gadget will be a helping hand for the elderly

PENSIONERS are to get hi-tech gadgets to negotiate shopping centres as part of a £12m investment in innovation for the elderly.

Experts at Newcastle University are being given the cash to develop new technology to help people stay confident and independent as they get older.

The sat-nav-style gadgets could be used to help the elderly find their way around unfamiliar neighbourhoods or large stores and supermarkets.

University researchers are also working on a hi-tech kitchen that will guide people through cooking processes as they use it.

The institution is one of three in the country to be awarded the £12m investment over the course of the next five years.

One of the products being worked on is the ‘Ambient Kitchen’, which monitors a person’s progress as they cook through a series of electronic tags and sensors built into the floor, utensils, appliances, cupboards and work surfaces.

The kitchen – which looks normal – is programmed to know every step involved in preparing a series of recipes. If the person departs from the correct process, advice is projected onto one of the kitchen walls.

It is thought the technology will give people with dementia more confidence when cooking for themselves.

The scientists will work with a group of 3,000 volunteers from across the North East.

Dr Patrick Olivier, a reader in human-computer interaction, said: “I think its one of the first times that the research councils have really engaged with people at a low level.
